Affiliate Disclosure
Some AlienINT articles include links to books and gear on Amazon. If you buy something through one of those links, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. This page explains exactly how that works.
The One Program We Use
As an Amazon Associate, AlienINT earns from qualifying purchases.
That is currently our only affiliate relationship. If we ever join another program, we will update this page and say so.
How to Spot an Affiliate Link
Affiliate links on AlienINT appear in two forms. Some are ordinary text links to Amazon inside an article; the rest are product cards that show a book or product's image, title and price.
Both carry our Amazon affiliate tag. When you click one and then buy something on Amazon, Amazon records that you arrived from AlienINT and pays us a percentage of the sale.
The commission comes out of Amazon's side of the transaction. You pay the same price you would have paid by going to Amazon directly.
What We Do and Don't Learn
Amazon tells us which products were bought through our links so it can calculate the commission. It does not tell us who bought them, and it does not share names, addresses or payment details.
Our privacy policy covers the rest of what happens when you visit the site.
How We Choose What to Link
We link to books, documentaries and equipment that fit the article, whether that is a memoir by the person the article is about, the study a section draws on, or a pair of binoculars for a piece about watching the night sky.
The commission does not decide what gets covered or how favorably. We describe why a resource is relevant and note its limits, and we mention plenty of books we have no link for at all.
Prices Can Change
Prices, sale badges and availability on product cards come from Amazon at the time a page was last updated. They can change at any time, so treat the card as a pointer and check Amazon's page before you buy.
Advertising Is Separate
The site also shows display advertising served by Google, labeled "Sponsored." Those ads are chosen by Google, not by us, and they have nothing to do with affiliate links.
You Never Have to Use Them
Using an affiliate link is optional. You can search for a title yourself, buy it elsewhere, borrow it from a library or skip it entirely.
If you do use one, thank you. The commissions help pay for the time it takes to research and write these articles.
